How To Remove The Proudly Powered By WordPress Link

METHOD 1: Editing Footer.php

Editing your footer.php theme is an easy way to remove the WordPress footer credit link. The footer.php file contains the information displayed at the footer of your site which includes the WordPress Powered by Link. Follow the below step to achieve a result;

1. Go to Appearance > Editor in the WordPress admin.

2. In the list of files on the right, click on Theme Footer (footer.php), and

3. Look for and delete the following lines of code below:

<div class=”site-info”>
<?php
/**
* Fires before the twentysixteen footer text for footer customization.
*
* @since Twenty Sixteen 1.0
*/
do_action( ‘twentysixteen_credits’ );
?>
<span class=”site-title”><a href=”<?php echo esc_url( home_url( ‘/’ ) ); ?>” rel=”home”><?php bloginfo( ‘name’ ); ?></a></span>
<a href=”<?php echo esc_url( __( ‘https://wordpress.org/’, ‘twentysixteen’ ) ); ?>”><?php printf( __( ‘Proudly powered by %s’, ‘twentysixteen’ ), ‘WordPress’ ); ?></a>
</div><!– .site-info –>

4. Click Update File and the footer credit link will no longer appear on your website.

In addition, WordPress default themes such as Twenty Fifteen and Twenty Fourteen will work in similar way above – if you search for “Proudly Powered by” and delete the associate code, it will remove the footer credit link.

While in Twenty Seventeen, it has made it a bit harder to find and remove the code – sort of. While there’s just one line of code you need to remove, it’s not as easy to find.

In order to remove the WordPress footer credit link from the Twenty Seventeen theme:

1. Go to Appearance > Editor in the WordPress admin.

2. In the list of files on the right, click on Theme Footer (footer.php), and

3. Look for and delete the following line of code:

get_template_part( ‘template-parts/footer/site’, ‘info’ );

4. Click Update File. The next time you refresh your website, the footer credit will no longer be there.

METHOD 2: Through Theme Customize

This method is the easiest method that you can fix in a seconds. i advice you to go for this simple step. Proceed below by;

1. Go to Appearance > Customize in the WordPress admin,

2. Click Additional CSS at the bottom of the menu, and

3. Insert this CSS code.

.site-info { display: none; }

4. Click Save and the next time you refresh your website the footer credit link will be gone.

NOTE: This method is easy but have a negative impact on your SEO. As Google search dislikes websites with hidden links. But if losing search traffic doesn’t bother you then you can proceed with this method 1.
